Traditionally made violins, violas and cellos

I make award winning violins, violas and cellos, crafted using traditional materials and methods. I can also undertake set-up, repairs and tonal adjustments. My workshop is based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK.

Once I tried [my Gibertoni violin], I couldn’t imagine not having it. The violin is so easy to play and has a beautiful even sound across all four strings as well as excellent tonal variety. Having had the violin since April 2006, I have experienced the instrument maturing and mellowing and also had excellent service from Stefano, who is always keen to see his instruments again.

Mittenwald Violin-Making Competition

I am pleased to say that my latest cello, a Francesco Ruggeri 1696 Model, was judged as the first italian cello and reached the final fifth place overall in the Mittenwald International Violin-Making Competition last June, with a very high score marked for the tone, 155 out of 200.

I arrived the 14 April, late at night, with no visa and 40kg of tools and woods; after 1 hour of slightly worrying wait, my “visa volante” appeared and I was quickly let through immigration and customs. I was greeted by Andres and I was taken to the Casa Laical, my residence for the next month. The place turned out to be excellent for me; the room is comfortable and air conditioned, the food is nice and plentiful, the staff friendly and homely, the location is central and 5 min. walk to the workshop: I could not asked for more.
